The Golden Chain Theatre

The Snowline Bowling Alley was the first mountain area bowling alley. In the 1960’s it was closed down for a few factors, lack of revenue not the least. In 1965 a few Oakhurst thespians decided to start their very own theatre group. They called themselves the Golden Chain Theatre with old time melodramas being their forte. They started out putting their performances on at the Oakhurst Community Center but with their popularity growing but they needed a more accommodating building. So they raised money and even put their homes up as collateral to buy the defunct Snowline Bowling Alley.

With some good old hard work they renovated the building and it’s now the beautiful, cozy, and good ol’ time theatre you see today.

The Haunting:

However a tragedy be folded the group in 1977. A lead actor was killed when he was struck by a semi right on the highway in front of the theatre. People have witnessed seeing him on occasion. Also a beloved caretaker-actor passed away awhile back and his presence has been sensed as well. They are known for giving responses to questions including flashing stage lights and loud knocks on walls. Shadows have been witnessed in various places with no visible light to cast them.
