Fresno Flats Historicial Village & Park

Logging started booming in the 1850’s and 60’s in the mountains surrounding what is now the area known as Oakhurst. In these times the area was known as Fresno Flats. It was a quite prosperous place in the mid and late 1800’s. It had saloons, a hotel, and its own saw mill. In the early 1900’s the rail line skipped old Fresno Flats. The lumber mill and the town’s prime source of income closed and many people left for greener pastures. It was destined to die like many other towns in the Sierra that boomed in the gold rush and slowly declined. In the 1940’s highway 41 started being built and it passed through the area on to Yosemite. The town was renamed Oakhurst and it is now a thriving community of over 13,000 residents.

Luckily a few of the buildings from the golden days of Fresno Flats have been restored and are now centered at the Fresno Flats Historical Village & Park. It is run by the Sierra Historic Sites Association. Along with two homes, there is a blacksmith shop, a school, and a wagon shed. Both homes were constructed in the 1870’s

Haunting:

Apparitions have been frequently spotted on the site when it was closed as well as reports of singing from the yellow home and many other odd noises coming from the place after dark. Investigators Tom Durant and Mark and Debbie Constitino have gathered some impressive e.v.ps on their recent investigation of the site.
